The Products That Actually Help My Undereye Circles (The New Mom Kind)

Since giving birth to our first baby, Chloe, a few months ago, my skincare routine has shifted so much. The days of ten-step skincare routines and nightly drawn-out baths are behind me. All-in-one moisturizers and a quick dab of eye cream are now the norm.

But while I dedicate less time to topically caring for my skin, I’ve made a bigger priority of supporting my skin from within with antioxidant- and collagen-rich supplements capable of doing double-duty: enhancing my skin and supporting my overall health. Read on below for the supplements and skincare routine I’ve been using for the dark circles and fatigued skin that have come with being a new mom.

For tired skin

During the weeks immediately after giving birth to Chloe, I was surviving on less than four hours of sleep each night, yet my skin was glow-inggg. Shocking, I know, but I attribute the best-skin-of-my-life to the copious amounts of collagen-rich foods and broths my postpartum confinement nurse was feeding me.

Collagen is essential for tissue repair1 and promotes elasticity and suppleness in the skin by providing the building blocks for the formation of new collagen and elastin in the deepest layer of the skin—the dermis.

After our postpartum nurse left, cooking collagen-dense meals (or any meals at all) was a challenge, so I began supplementing with HUM Nutrition Collagen Love to keep my glow going.

Now, you may think any collagen supplement will do, but I particularly love this one from HUM Nutrition because in addition to hydrating hyaluronic acid and antioxidant-rich resveratrol, it also contains vitamin C, which has been shown in studies2 to be an essential component for collagen synthesis.

Each morning, I take the recommended dose of three Collagen Love pills, then quickly slather VENN Skincare All-In-One Concentrate, the recently launched natural Korean brand’s anti-aging serum-and-moisturizer wonder on my face. I love that the VENN Concentrate sinks right in and has barely any scent. Finally, I’ll dab on my favorite organic tinted SPF by Marie Veronique and I’m ready to tackle the day in less than five minutes looking more rested than I actually am.

For tired eyes

Nighttime is when I have a little more time to invest in self-care, so to combat my perennial dark circles, I massage my microcurrent ReFa device around my eyes and dab an eye-cream to help reduce inflammation and puffiness. I always look a little less tired in the morning when I remember to apply it, but like all topical products, eye creams can only go so far.

To really get to the root cause of dark circles, boosting an eye regimen with a healthy diet and targeted supplements is the best approach in my experience, so I’ve incorporated HUM Nutrition Wing Man into my evening routine. This supplement contains milk thistle, dandelion, and artichoke—all of which have been proven to promote liver detoxification, improve circulation, and provide antioxidant protection against free-radical damage. They’re the three major components that can contribute to clearing up dark circles due to stagnation within the body.

Of course, getting a good night’s rest doesn’t hurt either. If you can remember to take it twenty minutes before bed, HUM Nutrition zzZ melatonin supplement is a great option to support deep, restorative sleep—the skin refresher every new mom needs.

*If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, be sure to speak with your healthcare provider before beginning a supplement routine.
